The best cenotes for scuba diving and snorkeling in Mexico are located near Tulum and Playa del Carmen. Dos Ojos is one of the most bizarre and stunning dive spots on the Yucatan peninsula. Casa Cenote offers one of the most colourful dives under the mangrove. The Pit is an enchanting 36 m deep cenote with spectacular light beams penetrating to the very bottom. Carwash is a fantastic dive - with its fascinating underwater flower garden, full of wildlife. The halocline effect - when salt water meets fresh water - is another magic phenomenon unique to cenotes. Water temperature stays at a constant 25-27°C, with excellent visibility reaching up to 100m, making them perfect for scuba diving all year long. What is the best month to visit Tulum?

It's warm all year round, hot and humid tropical weather, warm enough to go for a swim or to sunbathe at the beach. November till March is when the heat is moderate and when Tulum gets the most visitors. May is considered the hottest month and September & October are the rainiest, but still, it doesn't rain all day, every day. The low season from May to October is when you can get good accommodation deals and avoid the crowds.

What time of year is best to dive in Tulum?

To experience less crowded locations and excellent visibility during your Tulum diving trip, it is recommended to schedule it from May to November. During this time, the cenotes are illuminated with stunning light that makes for breathtaking underwater photography. However, if you're interested in encountering marine life the ideal period to come swim with whale sharks would be between June and September. To dive with bull sharks near Playa del Carmen, you should plan your trip between November and March, when the high season is.

What mm wetsuit thickness for diving in Tulum?

We recommend you use a 5 mm full wetsuit for the cenote dives and 3 mm for ocean. Depending on your cold tolerance we offer different thicknesses and sizes at our dive shops, rental is included in all dive prices, so you can even add a short wetsuit on if you need extra warmth in cenotes. Most cenote dives can be comfortably done with a 5mm full wetsuit.
